Jun29SWR win waste contract with UK’s largest privately owned independent accident repair group

SWR provide ADR with new greener, cost effective waste management solutions

As the UK’s only waste management company with specialist recycling services designed specifically for the automotive industry, SWR has won the waste contract to supply the UK’s largest privately owned accident repair group, ADR.

With nine body shops across Derbyshire, Midland, East Midland, Yorkshire and Cheshire regions, ADR works with major insurers including Allianz, Aviva, esure, Fortis and Zurich, and has manufacturer approvals with prestigious brands including Mercedes-Benz, Audi and Jaguar.

SWR will manage 100 percent of waste from all ADR sites, under a new simplified single contract, which involves facilitating a systematic way of processing and handling all waste streams. SWR will also ensure ADR have everything in place to meet the strict legislation surrounding waste management in the automotive industry, in accordance with ADR’s rigid environmental policy.

Businesses such as ADR can have many different waste streams, which are subject to a wide array of legislation and best practice for disposal, as Geoff Ellis, business development manager at SWR, explains: “Waste from car servicing workshops and body shops is often complicated and time consuming to manage. The process of repairing cars produces a lot of bulky recyclable waste and an array of chemical and other hazardous waste which must be disposed of in a controlled manner.

“SWR has a wealth of experience in the automotive industry and places great emphasis on understanding how the business operates. In order to achieve this, we visited each of ADR’s sites and met with the core management team to gain a thorough understanding of the types and quantities of waste produced.

“Following this exercise we were able to ascertain that the facilities and space available for waste receptacles varies greatly from one premises to another, so we have developed a bespoke range of options for ADR to provide a solution that minimises the disruption of waste movements at each site.

“Part of this involves a unique segregation system that ensures almost all packaging, car components and body parts are recycled and that any hazardous substances are disposed of in an effective manner.

“Our services are designed to remove as much of the burden of managing waste as possible so our customers get on with running the business.”

ADR’s newly adopted waste management system will provide a cost effective solution which will not only help streamline the entire waste process, but ultimately save ADR money. Part of this service will include training of management and staff, ongoing expert advise and the provision of onsite support material. In addition, SWR will provide detailed reporting on ADR’s recycling performance and duty of care to ensure that they can demonstrate their green credentials.

Greg Stansfield, group commercial manager for ADR, said: “As a business, it is becoming increasingly important to ensure that we dispose of our waste in an environmentally friendly way. The SWR motor industry waste management programme ensures that we have as little impact on the environment as possible and brings our waste strategy in line with our overall quality standards commitment and core company values.”

“We have been extremely impressed with the SWR service so far and we look forward to working with them in the implementation of our new improved waste strategy.”
