Promanex 21/04/2011
Promanex is an industrial support service company offering a range of in-house and outsourced environmental and FM services across the UK.
Promanex turned to SWR to manage all waste being produced by one of their clients on their Berkeley and Coryton power plants. This included arranging large ad hoc clearances at a Berkeley site, parts of which are being decommissioned. They would need a single point of contact for all waste issues including compactors, skips, waste processing, recycling and advisory services.
Along with an intricate waste management program, they required an auditable and environmentally friendly solution in line with their well-documented CSR policy.
SWR would have to deliver regular and accurate reporting on how this waste was being disposed of.
The issues
Due to the nature and number of waste streams, developing a solution would be a complex piece of work.
A review of waste operations established that the site generated over 10 different waste streams (from paper to rubble), dealt with six waste contractors and that the majority of waste from the site ended up in landfill.
SWR Solution
SWR developed a waste strategy that would allow Promanex to divert as much equipment as possible away from landfill.
SWR also provided weekly reports on the volume and recycling rate of each stream collected, maintaining constant communication between a highly skilled SWR service manager and a project manager at Promanex and ensuring support was there when needed.
SWR created a solution that was simplistic, cost effective and as environmentally friendly as possible. Using a mix of its own vehicles and services of local contractors, SWR was able to provide a flexible service that would:
· Demonstrate improvements in recycling and carbon footprint reduction using monthly reports
· Create cost savings throughout the contract term
· Be simple to manage by having one point of contact for all waste streams
· Be quickly responsive to ad hoc clearance requirements
The Outcome
SWR helped Promanex transform their approach to waste management and in doing so benefited from significant environmental improvements, reduced operational risk and financial savings;
· 76% of their equipment and materials was diverted from ending up in landfills, amounting to 25 tonnes.
· The transformation programme more than returned the investment of time and cost.
· The task of reporting was transferred to SWR, relieving Promanex of the burden
· The programme engaged the site community to contribute to the overall objective of reducing waste.
Testimonial
“SWR advised and worked with Promanex Total FM and Environmental to implement the best solution to a complicated and unique laboratory, office and engineering hall clearance. This culminated in being able to divert over 70% of the equipment/materials from landfill. SWR were extremely professional in all aspects of advising, mobilization and execution of the works and provided accurate and timely weekly reports in order to meet client requirements. Their ability to enable us to segregate our waste streams in an efficient manner resulted in our project being delivered well within timescale and budget.”

Promanex are a construction and industrial services company. They required a waste management program dealing with 10 separate waste streams for one of their clients. The site was a power station in Gloucester and would be complex.
Promanex and their client expected an auditable and environmentally friendly solution in line with their well documented CSR policy. Along with an intricate waste management program, we would have to deliver regular and accurate data on how the sites waste was being disposed of.
What was so good about it?
The program allowed Promanex to divert a sizeable 76% of their equipment and materials from ending up in landfills, moving 25 tonnes of collected waste from the site. We were also able to provide weekly reports on the volume and recycling rate of each stream collected by maintaining constant communication between a highly skilled SWR field manager and a project manager at Promanex, assuring support was there when needed.
The project was a great success for us and a year later we still enjoy close working relations with Promanex.
