Advice & FAQs
- Q. How often will my waste be collected?
-
A. Your waste collection day and frequency will be specific to you. General, recyclable and hazardous waste will all be collected on different cycles. If at any time you require clarification please contact a member of our customer service team.
- Q. Will we have to go through the bins to segregate the waste?
-
A. The SWR system means that the segregation occurs in the work place so the waste is never mixed. SWR will work with you to implement an internal bin system that is tailored to the major waste streams you produce. Internal containers will be labelled with stickers that correspond to your new external containers.
- Q. Will we still have general waste?
-
A. SWR will help you recycle as much as possible, but a proportion of your waste will still be classed as general waste. We will assess your general waste requirement and ensure you have the appropriate capacity. Our pledge is to ensure that at least 75% of all your waste is recycled.
- Q. How do I know what waste will be leaving my site?
-
A. In many instances a waste transfer note will be issued at the same time as the collection. This should be filed out and kept as it forms a required record under waste regulations.
- Q. Will I always get a waste transfer note?
-
A. In instances where regular collections are made of the same type and volume of material, an annual waste transfer note will be used. If in doubt contact an SWR member of staff.
- Q. Can blue workshop paper be recycled? What happens if general waste is put in recycling containers?
-
A. SWR requires effective segregation to recycle. Mixing waste is classified as contamination. The result of this is that good material is likely to be sent to landfill and this will incur additional costs.
SWR therefore charge a fee for removal of contaminated bins. If the contamination is slight and can be sorted, we will always try and give you the opportunity to do so. If there is a need for further training or a service review, SWR will be happy to attend your site.
Similarly to tissues and hand towels, blue role paper has usually been recycled several times and therefore cannot be recycled.
- Q. What should I do with oil bottles and similar top up containers (e.g. anti freeze)
-
A. Any oil container or a container with a hazardous symbol must be disposed of in line with hazardous and controlled waste regulations. SWR will be able to provide you with the specific container for such disposals.
- Q. If i need extra containers for my site, how do i acquire them?
-
A. We can arrange for you to have extra containers. Please contact a member of our customer service team who will be happy to discuss arrangements with you.
- Q. Can I move my waste containers around my site?
-
A. Yes. However if you decide to move your external waste containers please ensure you contact the SWR customer services team.
- Q. What should we do with loose waste? E.g. wood, pallets and windscreens
-
A. In the majority of cases we are able to remove loose waste provided that it is a type that is covered in your waste agreement. Please check with our customer service team who will be pleased to advice on arrangements.
