History of SWR

“Waste is increasingly someone else’s raw material. SWR was set up to make this happen for our customers”

History of SWR

SWR was formed in 2007 when Angus MacDonald purchased Oakside Environmental Ltd. As a very successful entrepreneur, Angus had been seeking to acquire a company in the recycling and waste management industry for some time.

Oakside served a niche market, the UK automotive sector, with a unique waste disposal service. It offered a single contract to deal with up to 20 different waste streams, including many hazardous wastes that are produced by workshops and bodyshops. It also guaranteed a recycling rate of over 75 per cent.

Angus assembled a strong management team and secured significant investment so that the company could fulfill its potential in automotive waste management and expand into other markets.

Giles Whiteley was appointed as chief operations officer charged with restructuring the company for growth and excellent service delivery. Richard Brown, the founder of Oakside, joined SWR to develop the automotive market, which continues to go from strength the strength.

From the start we saw that there were significant opportunities to offer our distinctive waste management service right across British industry. We defined our direction on our understanding that:

• Good customer service is lacking across the waste and recycling industry

• Few waste and recycling companies engage properly with customers

• not many waste management companies provide a full national service

• Customers need good reporting on their recycling performance and very few waste management companies provide this

• The largest companies in the waste and recycling sector are not necessarily the best to deal with, and

• As companies recycle more they seem to need numerous waste and recycling contractors.

SWR’s approach to waste management makes the most of the positives and addresses the negatives on all these points. It is applicable to virtually every business we can think of as described on the Our Services page.

Today SWR has a head office and recycling depot in Alton Hampshire, offices in London and Perth, and further recycling depots in Peterborough, Burton on Trent, Wetherby, and Falkirk. There are partner depots in Bristol and Manchester.

We provide a full national service and have an extensive network of partners equally committed to giving our customers and excellent waste management service.

All at SWR are very proud of the company we are building and the service we provide.
